As a Freelance Fruit Picker, your skills and responsibilities will include:
Fruit Harvesting: Safely and efficiently pick a variety of fruits, such as kiwifruits, apples, or berries, following proper harvesting techniques. Ensure that only ripe and undamaged fruits are selected, maintaining high-quality standards.
Speed and Efficiency: Work at a steady pace to meet daily picking targets. Utilize efficient picking techniques to maximize productivity while maintaining the quality of the harvested fruits.
Attention to Detail: Pay close attention to fruit ripeness, size, and color to ensure only the best fruits are harvested. Handle the fruits carefully to avoid bruising or damage during picking.
Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all health and safety guidelines, including wearing appropriate protective gear, using tools and equipment correctly, and following instructions provided by supervisors. Maintain a safe working environment for yourself and others.
Teamwork: Collaborate with other fruit pickers as part of a team. Communicate effectively, share knowledge and resources, and support each other to ensure a smooth and efficient picking process.
Physical Stamina: Demonstrate physical fitness and endurance to withstand the demands of repetitive bending, reaching, and standing for long periods. Lift and carry crates or bins of harvested fruits, adhering to proper lifting techniques.
Quality Control: Sort and grade the harvested fruits based on size, color, and other quality criteria. Remove any damaged or substandard fruits, ensuring only the best-quality fruits are selected for packaging and distribution.
Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate records of the amount of fruit picked, ensuring the data is correctly documented for record-keeping purposes.
Requirements:
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including hot or cold temperatures.
Physically fit and able to handle the demands of manual labor, including repetitive tasks and lifting.
Attention to detail and ability to differentiate between ripe and unripe fruits.
Reliability and punctuality to meet picking schedules and targets.
Willingness to follow instructions and adhere to health and safety guidelines.
Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Previous fruit picking experience or experience in similar agricultural work is an advantage but not essential.
Availability to work flexible hours, including early mornings and weekends, depending on harvesting demands.
