As a Freelance Occupational Therapist, your skills and responsibilities will include:
Assessment and Evaluation: Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify clients' physical, cognitive, and emotional needs. Evaluate their functional abilities, daily living skills, and environmental factors that may impact their independence.
Treatment Planning: Develop personalized treatment plans based on clients' individual goals, needs, and abilities. Collaborate with clients and their families to set achievable objectives and milestones.
Intervention and Therapy: Provide evidence-based therapeutic interventions to enhance clients' independence and participation in daily activities. This may include techniques such as mobility training, adaptive equipment prescription, cognitive rehabilitation, sensory integration, and vocational rehabilitation.
Activities of Daily Living (ADL) Training: Assist clients in improving their ability to perform activities of daily living, such as dressing, grooming, bathing, and meal preparation. Teach compensatory strategies and recommend adaptive equipment to maximize independence.
Rehabilitation and Recovery Support: Work with clients who have experienced injuries, illnesses, or disabilities to facilitate their recovery and promote their reintegration into their personal and professional lives. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care.
Assistive Technology and Equipment: Assess clients' needs for assistive devices, adaptive equipment, or modifications to their living environment. Recommend and provide training on the appropriate use of equipment to enhance clients' independence and safety.
Patient Education and Counseling: Educate clients and their families about their condition, treatment options, and self-management techniques. Provide emotional support, coping strategies, and resources to address their concerns and improve overall well-being.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and detailed records of client assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries. Adhere to legal and ethical guidelines regarding confidentiality and data protection.
Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including physicians, nurses, physiotherapists, speech therapists, and social workers, to ensure holistic and coordinated care. Communicate effectively with clients, their families, and caregivers to provide updates, educate on treatment plans, and address any questions or concerns.
Professional Development: Stay updated on current research, best practices, and advancements in occupational therapy. Attend professional development courses, conferences, and workshops to enhance your knowledge and skills.
Requirements:
Bachelor's or master's degree in Occupational Therapy.
Current registration and practicing certificate with the Occupational Therapy Board of New Zealand.
Proven experience as an Occupational Therapist, preferably in a clinical or community setting.
Strong clinical reasoning and assessment skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Empathy, patience, and a client-centered approach.
Ability to work independently and manage a flexible schedule.
Proficiency in documentation and computer skills.
Valid working rights in New Zealand.
