If you have a passion for the outdoors, enjoy physical work, and want to be part of the farming community, this role is perfect for you. Our client is a leading farm that specializes in various agricultural activities, including crop cultivation, livestock management, and horticulture. As a Farm Hand, you will play an essential role in supporting the daily operations of the farm, ensuring that crops are grown, animals are cared for, and the farm functions smoothly. Responsibilities: 1. Crop Maintenance: Assist in planting, harvesting, and maintaining crops. This includes activities such as preparing the soil, planting seeds, watering, weeding, and applying fertilizers or pesticides as directed. 2. Livestock Care: Support the care and management of farm animals, including feeding, watering, and ensuring their overall welfare. You may be involved in tasks such as milking cows, shearing sheep, or assisting with the birthing process. 3. Equipment Operation: Operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment, such as tractors, harvesters, and irrigation systems. Basic knowledge of machinery operation and maintenance is desirable, but training can be provided. 4. Farm Infrastructure: Assist in the construction, repair, and maintenance of farm infrastructure, including fences, sheds, and irrigation systems. Basic carpentry or plumbing skills would be advantageous. 5. General Farm Duties: Perform various tasks as required, such as cleaning and maintaining farm buildings, organizing tools and equipment, and participating in farm-related projects or events. 6. Health and Safety Compliance: Follow all health and safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others. Adhere to guidelines for the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and the proper handling of hazardous substances. 7. Team Collaboration: Work closely with other farm staff and follow instructions from farm managers or supervisors. Effective communication and teamwork are essential to ensure the smooth running of farm operations. 8. Adaptable Nature: Be flexible and adaptable to changing farm needs and seasonal demands. Farm work may vary throughout the year, requiring you to switch between different tasks and responsibilities. Skills and Requirements: - Physical Fitness: Farm work can be physically demanding, involving manual labor and long hours spent outdoors. Good stamina, strength, and the ability to work in various weather conditions are necessary. - Attention to Detail: Follow instructions accurately and pay attention to detail to ensure tasks are performed correctly. This includes adhering to planting and harvesting schedules, animal care protocols, and safety procedures. - Problem-Solving Skills: Demonstrate problem-solving skills to identify and address issues that may arise during farm operations. This could involve troubleshooting equipment problems or finding innovative solutions to challenges on the farm. - Passion for Agriculture: Display a genuine interest in farming and a desire to contribute to sustainable agricultural practices. Previous experience or knowledge in farming, horticulture, or animal care is advantageous but not essential. - Reliability and Time Management: Be punctual, reliable, and able to manage your time effectively. Farms operate on tight schedules, and your timely presence and completion of tasks are crucial for the success of farm operations. - Positive Attitude: Approach farm work with enthusiasm, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn. Farms can be demanding, but they also offer a rewarding experience working in close connection with nature. - Valid Work Permit: Hold a valid work permit or right to work in the UK.
