We are partnering with one of its leading clients to offer an exciting freelance opportunity as a Drone Operator in the dynamic city of Auckland. If you possess excellent piloting skills, a keen eye for composition, and a love for pushing the boundaries of cinematography, this freelance role is tailor-made for you. As a Drone Operator, your skills and responsibilities will include: Aerial Cinematography: Utilize your expert piloting skills to capture breathtaking aerial shots for a variety of projects, including films, documentaries, commercials, and events. Ensure smooth and stable flight maneuvers while maintaining a focus on composition and capturing the desired footage. Equipment Setup and Maintenance: Prepare and maintain drone equipment, including cameras, batteries, and propellers, to ensure optimal performance and safety. Conduct regular equipment checks and troubleshoot any technical issues that may arise during the operation. Flight Planning and Risk Assessment: Collaborate with the production team to determine the desired shots and angles. Conduct pre-flight planning, including identifying suitable locations, assessing weather conditions, and obtaining necessary permissions or permits. Conduct thorough risk assessments to ensure safe and compliant operations. Compliance with Regulations: Stay up to date with local regulations and aviation laws pertaining to drone operations. Ensure adherence to all safety guidelines, airspace restrictions, and privacy regulations to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and legal compliance. Shot Coordination: Work closely with the director, cinematographer, or production team to understand their creative vision and desired shots. Collaborate on shot lists, camera movements, and shot transitions to achieve the desired storytelling effect. Post-production Support: Provide raw footage to the post-production team in the required format and collaborate on any necessary edits or revisions. Communicate effectively to ensure the final product aligns with the creative vision. Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Conduct routine maintenance on drone equipment to ensure reliability and longevity. Troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues that may arise during flights promptly and efficiently. Safety and Risk Management: Prioritize safety during all operations. Assess and mitigate potential risks associated with flight locations, weather conditions, and public safety. Implement appropriate safety measures, such as pre-flight checks, emergency procedures, and safety briefings for crew and onlookers. Communication and Collaboration: Maintain open and effective communication with the production team, crew members, and stakeholders to ensure a seamless workflow. Collaborate closely with other team members on set to ensure the integration of drone footage with other camera shots and perspectives. Professional Development: Stay abreast of the latest technological advancements, best practices, and trends in drone technology and aerial cinematography. Continuously enhance your skills and explore innovative techniques to deliver exceptional results. Requirements: Demonstrable experience as a professional Drone Operator, preferably in the film, television, or commercial production industry. Proficiency in operating a range of drone models and camera equipment. Excellent piloting skills, including precise control, smooth maneuvering, and a keen eye for composition. Sound knowledge of drone regulations and local airspace restrictions. Proficiency in flight planning software and applications. Strong technical skills to troubleshoot and resolve any equipment or operational issues. Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality footage.
